"Free Slurpee" joke

So July 11th is "free Slurpee day" at 7-11. When I got home last night, I realized I'd totally forgotten about it. On my way into work today, I stopped at the 7-11 and asked the guy if, since I'd forgotten about it yesterday, I could have a free Slurpee today. He said "yes." So I poured myself a cold one, and as I was headed out the door, the guy starts all yelling and screaming at me. Apparently, he wanted me to pay for the chips and candy I'd stuffed in my bag. This "free Slurpee day" is kinda a crock.
